AUÐLIND - Audlind Nature Fund


The nature of Iceland is a national heritage, which is the collective property of current and future generations. The Audlind Nature Fund has been established to guard the principal resources of Iceland’s nature, to maintain their variety and to protect their livelihood – sustainability?. The Fund aims to conserve and protect and to maintan respect of Iceland’s nature as a unique national heritage.

The Audlind Nature Fund relies on contributions and initiatives of individuals as well as the financial support of corporations and government agencies. The Fund is intended primarily as a financial guardian of the natural heritage of Iceland. A powerful Audlind Nature Fund will be able to support ambitious plans for a variety of programs directed by individuals, societies and communities which are aimed at reclaiming and protecting the unique attributes of Iceland’s nature.

Audlind is a not-for-profit organization with a legally established charter within Iceland. Contributions to the fund are tax-deductible, in the case of tax-paying legal entities and individuals with commercial activity. Contributions to Audlind is open to all interested parties and all funds will be used directly to fund nature conservation projects in Iceland. The charter of Audlind allows for the establishment of special projects unde the auspices of the Nature Fund. Two have been already established: Votlond, with emphasis of preservation of the wetlands of Iceland, and ASSA, for conservation of the Icelandic sea eagle population.

The principal goal of Audlind is to protect and reclaim Iceland’s natural heritage. This goal will be attained by and guardianship of nature and by increasing the awareness of the general population for the importance of this goal, and with the collaboration of individuals, societies, corporations, investors, municipal communities and government.

• AUDLIND provides assistance and oversight for government to ensure that the land, biota and natural resources of Iceland are recorded and respected.

• AUDLIND supports a land use plan for Iceland with the goal of sustainable development as a principal criterion.

• Land acquired by AUDLIND will be protected, or it may be sold with specific conservation stipulations, in such a way that future generations may enjoy the qualities of the land.

• AUDLIND will collaborate with landowners and encourage new initiatives. Landowners could for example request that restrictions of use, favoring conservation, be placed on their landholdings.

• AUDLIND supports projects that aim at reclaiming land resources and the conservation of Iceland’s nature.

Guiding light:
Neither the land nor the waters will be spoilt by contaminating or destructie activities.

Principal goal:
To strive for the protection and conservation of the quality of land and water in Iceland.

Audlind Nature Fund was formally established on 1. December 2008. The fund operates according to the Icelandic law for funds and foundations established with a certified charter, number 19/1988. Contributions to the fund are deductible from taxable income for legal entities and individuals, in line with Icelandic tax code item 483/1994.
